I've now made the poll for the stamina table replacements. I know the suggestions in this thread and my Innate Special Attacks/Defenses idea probably haven't been discussed enough, but we don't want to risk prolonging the release of the new version of the book too much. http://aldeon.createaforum.com/2016-errata-votes/replacing-the-stamina-table/

Another option which may or may not be simpler would be to rework stamina costs for skills. Like break weapon has always been too expensive to be worth getting.

There are plenty of players who like hammers and axes overy swords. And honestly I don't see what the big deal is with people not liking people to only use swords. The stamina table was confusing to new players and to players who weren't warriors but would npc. Getting rid of it was the best, and replacing it with something like this and Zach's idea is probably the best out there.

The issue I have with styles is the same I had with the stamina table. Since you'd allow any weapon to use any style, the player would simply pick the one most powerful style, or the one best for their character and then just use the same weapon they normally do. There's no reason to use an axe or hammer over a sword if all 3 can use any style.

The top number would be the maximum length for a sword/club type weapon. The bottom would be the maximum for a headed weapon like a hammer/axe/mace.

So is the bottom number the new max?

My idea was to decrease the maximum length of headed weapons (such as hammers, axes, and maces) and have them do an extra +1 damage compared to other weapons in their size category. The rough numbers I've come up with are:
Small: 23" Small H: 18"
Short: 34" Short H: 27"
Long: 48" Long H: 40"
2H: 61" 2H H: 52"
Great: 84" Great H: 72"

I feel like that would make things a little more complicated than they need to be. I'd say have the price variance be minimal between all the classes (probably ranging between 3 and 5 CP per skill).

But i was thinking of maybe having the styles be cheapest for the cross classes, since they get boned on gaining stamina, or gaining damage. It would make sense that the cross classes would learn ways to more efficiently use stamina.

I am fine with the names, I just couldn't think of any as i was typing it up before I left work. And I wouldn't limit it based on weapon, but the thing Zach talked about where weapons had little tricks wouldn't be to bad either.

I wouldn't imagine they would be. With these skills it would be more like you as an individual are just particularly good at a certain thing. That being said, I think that we'd need to make sure the requirements/limits of the skills would be suitable since, as written, you could get reductions to stamina costs that didn't exist with the old stamina table. Possibly not every skill should have a stamina reduction via a style. Perhaps the most powerful skills should have associated styles with heavier pre-reqs.

Would styles be limited to certain weapons?

This would definitely be one way to replace the table. I do like that it makes it a lot easier to keep track of Stamina reductions since it's governed by specific skills and ties the benefits to your character as opposed to the weapon they are using. Doing it this way would encourage people to use whatever kinds of weapons they want too. I would recommend giving them thematic names in order to make them more interesting.
Something like... Aggressive Style Overpowering Style Defensive Style
Mystic Defense Style Elusive Style Lethal Style Vanquishing Style

Here is my proposal to replace the Stamina table.
Style's.
A Style would grant a minus one to the special attack and defenses stamina cost that are in that style. And the way it works out there are enough skill plus one and two specials that would allow three per style. Since there are only two plus four and plus five they could either be grouped as two or just not get styles since they are high lvl and don't really match each other.
Plus One Style 1: Critical Strike, Feint, Pierce Style 2: Break Weapon, Capture Weapon/Limb, Disarm Style 3: Deaden Limb, Deflect, Trip
Plus Two Style 4: Spell Block, Ricochet, Toxin Block Style 5: Evade, Parry, Weapon Ward Style 6: Death Strike, Execute, Stun Style 7: Greater Disarm, Cleave, Sever/Maim
This is a simple suggestion, that can either be tweaked or thrown out. But it should be discussed.
